About the hotel
Detroit Marriott at the Renaissance Center occupies the central tower of John Portman's riverfront Renaissance Center on Jefferson Avenue, a complex conceived by Henry Ford II. It opened in 1977 as the Detroit Plaza Hotel, later became a Westin and is now operated by Marriott, with about 1,300 rooms and the Highlands restaurant and bar at the top. General Motors began moving its headquarters out of the complex in January 2026, and a Bedrock redevelopment plan would keep the hotel but convert its upper floors to apartments.
