About the hotel

The Westin Peachtree Plaza is a cylindrical glass tower on Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta, designed by John Portman with scenic elevators running up one side. It opened on 27 February 1976 as the Peachtree Plaza Hotel and later took the Westin name. A 2008 tornado broke more than 500 windows, leading to replacement of every window, and in June 2026 Portman Holdings, founded by the architect, bought the hotel and announced a renovation. It has about 1,100 rooms and the Sun Dial Restaurant & Bar at the top.
