About the hotel

The hotel occupies the Art Deco tower at 1701 Collins Avenue designed by L. Murray Dixon, which opened as the Grossinger Beach Hotel, described as the first air-conditioned hotel on Miami Beach, and reopened as the Ritz Plaza in 1946 after housing Army officers during World War II. Developer Sam Nazarian bought it in 2004 and, after a long reconstruction, reopened it as SLS South Beach in June 2012. The official SLS website currently says the hotel is closed for renovations and gives no reopening date.
